Click here to read reviews of Love That Dog written by children shadowing the Carnegie Medal. BENJAMIN ZEPHANIAH Sharon Creech has written a book that is delightful, funny and poetic. That would have been a good enough accomplishment in itself, but this book goes further than that. It illustrates in a thoughtful and accessible way how our lives can be enriched once we open up and recognise that communication is cool. Is it a diary? Is it poetry? Is it a novel? Who cares? It's simply the most original book I've read for years, and now I see it as my duty to tell the world that the book that cannot be pigeonholed has been written. Long live the author, may her imagination touch us all. This is a book that reminds us all that poetry is about exploring every corner of our language, and that storytelling is the first art. When they come together it is magical. Love That Dog is a book of magic. JENNY MORRIS I was completely bowled over by this book and intend to tell as many people as possible to look out for it! It is so different from Sharon's other stories, all of which I love, and will appeal more to a younger audience. It's everything you've said about it and more - a true original and an inspirational read. WENDY COOLING This morning I had breakfast in the garden with Sharon Creech, Jack, a yellow dog and of course Miss Strechberry. All I can say is: I love that book like a woman loves to sing I said I love that book... Really though it is wonderful. Especially to a poetry-lover like me and as a wonderful contrast to what poetry sometimes becomes in the secondary school. I think children will love it for its story and for the warmth and sensitivity with which it is presented. AMANDA CRAIG I really loved this one so original and funny and touching. It's completely captivating in its description of how a boy comes to both love poetry and see the point of it, and use it to grieve for his dog and remember what he loved about it. | |||||
